MELROSE 2 – BURLINGTON 2
Melrose battled Burlington to a 2-2 tie with tight checking and excellent
defense shown by both teams throughout the game. Jamie Ferreira scored the first
goal of the game breaking fee in the neutral zone and carrying a Burlington
player on his back all the way to the crease where he knocked in the go ahead
goal for Melrose, crashing the net on the unassisted play. Ferreira had a strong
game in all three periods leading repeated attacks on the Burlington defense.
Burlington tied the score at the end of the first making it 1-1. Repeated rushes
by James Eisenberg, Evan Fay, Nick Kupchaunis, Shawn Stanton and Justin Laffey
kept the Burlington defense back on their heals. Burlington went ahead 2-1 in
the third period, but Melrose battled back tying the score 2-2 on a goal set up
by an end to end rush by Jamie Ferreira who stole the puck in the Melrose
defensive zone, rushed up the ice and found Teddie Ohanesian along in front of
the net knocking it in making it 2-2. Jamie Ferreira finished the night with 2
points and was in the mix throughout the game. The defense of Mat Centore, Zak
Aslane, Colon Healey and Justin Laffey kept Burlington at bay throughout the
game with limited scoring chances. Four penalties were called against Melrose
and zero against Burlington underscoring the strong defensive play of the
Melrose team throughout the game. The Melrose defense clogged up the middle
blocking a team record ten shots. Goalie Kevin “make’em miss” Marshall had
another outstanding game.
