MELROSE PEE WEE C-1
MELROSE 5 – SAUGUS 2
Melrose battled Saugus in a hard hitting physical game in Malden to a 5-2 win.
Seventeen (17) penalties were called in the game. Sean Kiernan, who had an
outstanding game, got the Red Raiders on the board early with a quick wrister
from the circle after being set up by Evan Fay and Tex Ohanesian. Kiernan using
his hard back-checking skills had a fantastic game keeping Saugus off the board
for much of the game. Justin Laffey opened the second period with a booming
slapshot making it 2-0. Jaime Ferreira and Colin Healy got assists. Saugus made
it 2-1, but Shawn Stanton scored on a tic-tac-toe play made possible by Jamie
Ferreira who got the assist making it 3-1 Melrose. Sean Kiernan opened the third
period with an end to end rush barreling over Saugus players to find Chris
Sullivan alone on the wing for the fourth goal for Melrose. Saugus kept it
interesting scoring again to make it 4-2, but this was Melrose’s day. Chris
Sullivan scored again set up nicely by Nick Kupchanis and James Eisenberg to
make it 5-2. Mat Centore, Colin Healy, Zack Aslane, Justin Laffey and goalie
Kevin Marshall once again stymied the Saugus offense holding them scoreless
after the ten minute mark in the third.
