Melrose Youth Hockey is excited to announce that this year’s Summer Bash and Kyle Going Away Party will be held on Sunday, August 10th from 4:00–7:00 PM at Melrose Fish and Game.
Join us for an evening of fun, games, food, and celebration as we kick off the 2025–2026 season together—and give a proper send-off to Kyle, who has given so much to our program!
Dear MYH Families,
I’m honored to have been elected President of Melrose Youth Hockey, and together with the Board, we’re excited for what’s shaping up to be a fantastic season ahead. Below are a few updates to help you plan for the season.
Registration for the 2025–2026 season is now open. To secure your child’s spot, please complete your registration by June 30. This deadline allows us to build rosters, finalize coaching assignments, and prepare for the season ahead. Please note that tuition fees have increased by approximately 5% for the upcoming season. This increase helps us cover several exciting program enhancements as well as rising costs associated with ice time and league fees. Program enhancements include:
If you are registering three or more players for the Mite or above level, have a child who is a full-time goalie at the squirt level or above level, or are registering for the Bantam / U14 team, please reach out to Andy Sanna (andysanna@gmail.com) ahead of completing your registration as you may qualify for a discount. Please note that our Learn the Play Registration will open in September.
Coaches and Volunteers: We received a tremendous response from parents interested in coaching or volunteering — thank you! Once registration closes, we’ll finalize rosters and follow up to confirm coaching appointments as well as team managers. As there may still be some movement of teams over the summer based on registration (e.g. a Mite 2 player moving to the Mite 1 team), it is important that we do not set anything in stone until rosters are complete.
Key Dates: While we don't know exactly how the season will shape up, we do know a few key dates that you can start to plan around now. Please keep these key dates in mind as you plan your year:
Bantams and U14s: Thank you for your patience as we have dealt with some uncertainty around our Bantam and U14 teams. Some good news! We have a coach and a good number of players secured for the Bantam team, and will be reaching out shortly to confirm Bantam placement. On U14s, we have just secured a coach, and will now start working to secure numbers. We will need a minimum of 12 players to field the team and feel confident that we are close.
Gear: MYH has opened a gear store through Signature Printing with items requiring a longer lead-time to customize. The gear store will be re-opened later in the summer with an expanded offering. For now, you can order MYH hockey bags, pant shells, and cut resistant neck protection. The purchase of all items is optional.
We’re looking forward to another fun and competitive season on the ice. Thank you for being a vital part of Melrose Youth Hockey!
Best,
Lisa
MYH is committed to making hockey available and accessible to all families. Please email me (lnatalicchio@gmail.com) if you have concerns about your skater being able to play hockey next season due to the current financial commitment, and we can discuss options and next steps.
The Melrose MiteB2 team capped an amazing year of development with a 6-4 victory over Winthrop to be crowned the Mite North A Division Champions!! Will Colella, Oliver Drunkman, and Sam Parmet each scored two goals to power Melrose’s offense. Dante Cieri-Figueroa played a great two-way game. Owen Roy, Greyson Ciulla, and Diego Hurtado played shutdown defense and stymied Winthrop’s high-powered offense. James Thompson, Ruihin Feng, and Dane Cafarella powered a relentless forecheck. Sydney Dunphy was a brick wall between the pipes.
Congratulations Mite B2!!! Cue the duck boats!!!
Good afternoon MYH Community,
As many of you know, Melrose Youth Hockey will be hosting a showcase hockey extravaganza against the Bruins Alumni on Saturday April 6th 2024 from 10-12 am at Flynn Rink!
We already have a crackerjack team of MYH coaches and parents that will play against the Bruins Alumni team. Day of event there will be opportunities to meet the alumni for signatures etc, 50/50 Raffle, Silent Auction etc as well as MYH Gear/Swag to purchase. Of course the Snack Shack will be in full effect!
This event will support Melrose Youth Hockey to benefit players in the organization (Tournament Fees, Jerseys, Tuition support, equipment closet etc) In addition, a portion of funds raised will go to support the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
In addition to your excitement and ticket purchase, we could use your help! If you would like to participate in event, coordinating planning, etc. day of game help we have lots of things we need to do:

MYH’s Mite A team finished 2nd in the AA division of the 40th annual Heseltine Memorial Mite Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend, dropping the championship game Sunday afternoon after running the table earlier in the day to reach the finals. It was a great weekend of hockey for the kids in red who competed in a deep 10-team division. Congratulations Mite As!

Hi Everyone,
I am very happy to announce that the season got off to a great start and we are hitting full speed heading into Thanksgiving. We are now in our second round of parity, and teams are finding their groove. There are still a couple of teams that need adjustments to get into the regular season bracket they should be in but we are very close.
Big thanks to you - our parents - as you are what makes hockey possible for the more than 140 kids in our program. To help with communication, we will share sharing updates with you via this newsletter. Look out for it on a regular basis, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
There will be no regular skills or Goalie skills on Friday night, but the 5:00 PM hour and the 6:00 PM hour will be available for coaches / teams. Let your coach know if you will be around and want to skate!
Skills with Jacqui will be temporarily replaced with the wildly popular 3 on 3 games on Friday nights beginning December 1 and going throughout January. There will be additional details provided about the format next week. Jacqui will be back with us after the holidays.
Practice Schedule
The High School Varsity season begins after Thanksgiving. This affects us in two ways. The Girls Varsity team will have some Wednesday games (6PM start). This will create adjustments on a week-by-week basis. Correspondence will be sent on Saturday highlighting these adjustments and communicating the schedule for your child’s team.
The Boys Varsity team will begin their weekday practices bumping our start times back 30 minutes on select days. Practice times will be impacted beginning the week of November 27th (next Monday). It has not been confirmed what specific days, but I will have confirmation very soon and follow up with an additional correspondence with specifics.
Details for both will be communicated each Sunday to help clarify.
Jerseys
Jerseys are here! We have now distributed all of the jerseys to our coaches. If you don't have your jersey yet, you will be getting it in the next few days. They look great! To help bolster MYH pride, on Friday December 1st we are asking all MYH players to wear their jersey to school. This will not only be a way to get some "street cred" for our kids - it is a wonderful endorsement of our program to peers. Remember to take pictures, and send them to me! I would love to post as many as possible on our Facebook page.
Snack Bar
The rumors are true! We are excited to announce that we will be opening the Snack Bar at Flynn Rink. We are going to start small and grow as the season progresses. To start, we will open the snack bar on Friday evenings from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm for families joining Skills. We will offer pizza and ice cream and will accept Cash and Venmo. Eventually we will move to offering breakfast treats and coffee for Learn to Play as well. We are going to need volunteers to help man the Snack Bar, In order to make this happen, we need your help. We are asking families to help us staff the snack bar. Any family member over the age of 14 can sign up for a shift here. We will need two volunteers for the first hour, and two volunteers for the second hour each week. You will have a choice to either volunteer (we’re happy to fill out those community service sheets for high schoolers) or receive money off your ice bill (at a rate of $15 for each hour worked).
All of the proceeds from the Snack Bar benefit Melrose Youth Hockey, which means more tournaments for our kids, cost savings on jerseys, enhanced development opportunities – you name it!
Learn to Play
Our LTP program has started and is off to a great start.. We are thrilled that we already have 54 kids signed up! Spaces are still available, and there is still time to get your kid registered. We have attached the LTP flyer if you are interested. Any questions, please reach out directly to our LTP Director Lisa Schmidt (lnatalicchio@gmail.com).
Parity
I want to close with a general reminder that our teams are now in their second round of parity. While teams should be getting more competitive, we will continue to see mismatches for the next few weeks. By December, each team should be in a competitive bracket that matches their skill level.
Thank you again for all that you do! We are looking forward to continuing the great season.
Best,
Kyle Blossom
MYH President
